WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT MANTHAN
Manthan is a distinctive and impressive platform. I have not come across anything like this in India. The diversity, the commitment and the enthusiasm of your members clearly shines through. It is quite unbelievable that you have built such a following and sustained it. Keep it up - I hope Manthan becomes a movement across our country. Thanks for inviting me to speak - it was a privilege.

Serious discourse, dialogue and conversation is almost disappearing from public life. The world of twitter and facebook are platforms for discussions. This is indeed a disturbing development. One may wonder why, especially when it is possible to send a message to millions all over the world. More than the reach of a message the message itself is far more critical. Any thought is not a short messaging service. It needs introspection, questions and substantiation. This is impossible in the social networking methodologies of the internet. We also forget that actual human interaction reveals the true nature of every individual. Meeting people, asking questions and importantly listening are essential for any kind of change in human direction. Manthan is a beautiful idea. Beautiful because it allows for ideas to develop. Any true idea is sheer beauty and the sharing of the same with people is part of the process of human movement. I sincerely wish Manthan remains to be an important initiator of human dialogue. I also wish that all the talks are uploaded on to a website, so that people can access the true nature of critical thinking in a world where we have time only for a few words.

I have had three opportunities to speak at Manthan. The meetings were special in every way. Each started on the dot. On each occasion, the venue was packed. Throughout the hour and a half or more that the meeting lasted, the audience was intent and engaged. The searching questions after the lecture showed how much the participants themselves knew about the subject. In a word, each meeting really was an exchange of ideas, truly a dialogue. And for the speaker a delight. If only others would learn from the organizers of Manthan, and we could have a hundred Manthans across the country.

Manthan affords a platform to eminent people in different walks of life to articulate their vision, concepts, ideas and talent for the enlightenment of an audience, which again is comprised of equally distinguished and accomplished people. It promotes discussion and churning on ideas in a free, frank and often constructive way. Manthan has , in avet short period, become an integral part of the lives of the socially aware people in Hyderabad.

I find Manthan a unique activity - it offers high quality discourse from exceptional speakers creating an environment for dialogue with the subject matter, which are generally topical, as well as with the speaker and of course the audience physically present at Manthan events as well as in virtual space. It seems that Manthan experience lends to collective and individual churning of ideas that appeal at intellectual and emotional levels. There has been no single event that I have visited of Manthan over the last six years which has not impacted me personally. We have been happy to partner with Manthan for some events to do jointly.

Manthan is not only a celebration of democracy. It is also an experiment with democracy by the novel way it stimulates and shapes exchanges between Hyderabad citizenry and scientists, artists and public intellectuals from all over India and beyond. To be a speaker in Manthan was as rewarding a learning experience for me as it was to be part of the audience.

Manthan, I believe, is one of the finest civil society organizations which we probably have anywhere in the country. The topics and the speakers chosen over such a long period have been by and large topical and brilliant, respectively. What has been particularly impressive is that Manthan has been able to sustain its tradition over such a long period. One cannot but admire the organizational efficiency of Manthan, if one takes into account the frequency of the talks that it arranges and the packed hall it always has.

I have been watching Manthan grow since its inception from a small group to a 'Manthan' that has churned ideas and thoughts cutting across diverse issues and nations. It has sought persons with eminence and gave an opportunity to Hyderabadis to listen, engage and interact with them. Manthan has now become a forum where important persons seek to address as they recognise the value of the audience that is serious and informed. Manthan is unique and has filled a huge gap in the Hyderabad institutional space. It has been my privilege to be associated with this silent movement.
