THE TALK
Agriculture is India’s backbone. And, agriculture has been the one big sector of the economy which has not been reformed or liberalised. It suffers badly because of this neglect. And India loses because agriculture does not prosper.

Sharad Joshi started Shetkari Sangathana and made it into India’s biggest farmers’ movement. He spearheaded the demand for big reforms. Gunvant Patil Hangargekar, Sharad Joshi’s colleague, has carried forward this movement.

In this Talk, he shall discuss what ails agriculture, and what specifically could be done to make agriculture prosper, leading to India’s prosperity.

GUNVANT PATIL HANGARGEKAR
An engineer by profession, a philanthropist by passion, Gunvant Patil Hangargekar has dedicated his life to the cause of the farmers. He has been an active leader of the the Shetkari Sangathana, the largest farmers’ association in India, founded by the late Sharad Joshi. He is presently the General Secretary of the Swatantra Bharat Paksha, the only liberal political party of India.
He is also General Secretary of the all-India Kisaan Coordination Committee.

He has been the Paul Harris fellow and has chaired the Maharashtra Andha Shraddha Nirmulan Samiti for the eradication of black magic practices in India.
