Praveen Jha, Professor of Economics at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning (CESP) and Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Informal Sector and Labour Studies (CISLS) is with the School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India.
His major areas of research and teaching include: Political Economy of Development, with particular reference to Labour, Agriculture and Education. His other areas of interest include Natural Resources, Public Finance, and History of Economic Thought. His recent books include Labour in Contemporary India (OUP, 2016), (edited with Geetha Rani), Right to Education: Resources, Institutions and Public Policy (Routledge 2016), (edited with Sam Moyo and Paris Yeros) Reclaiming Africa: Scramble and Resistance in the 21st Century (Springer, 2019), (along with Paris Yeros and Walter Chambati), Rethinking Social Sciences with Sam Moyo (Tulika 2020) and (edited with Avinash Kumar and Yamini Mishra) Labouring Women: Issues and Challenges in Contemporary India (Orient Black Swan 2020) and Labour Questions in the Global South (2021) with Walter Chambati and Lyn Ossome.
Prior to joining the JNU, he taught at St. Stephen´s College, University of Delhi and at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. He has been a Visiting Fellow to several Institutions/Universities, including University of Bremen, Germany; Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, Tianjin, China, Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa and Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies (SMAIAS), Harare, Zimbabwe; International Labour Organisation (ILO), Geneva and Kassel University, Germany. He has also been associated with several research studies with UN institutions such as the ILO, the UNICEF, the UNDP, FAO etc. He is one of the editors of the Journal, Agrarian South: Journal of Political Economy.
