India’s Unequal Economy & Majoritarian Polity
The Talk
The political economy gradually unfolding in India today is one in which the dominance of the rich in the economic domain and of Hindus in the sociopolitical sphere seek to work together to ensure the economic and sociopolitical well-being of the poor and non-Hindu minorities. A significant section of urban, educated, professional, middle-class Indians seem to be increasingly signing up for this project. Join us as Parakala Prabhakar speaks at Manthan to explore the mutually reinforcing relationship between neoliberal economic thinking and the Hindu majoritarian political project in contemporary India.
Parakala Prabhakar is a political economist and author of The Crooked Timber of New India. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics. He served the Government of Andhra Pradesh between 2014 and 2018 as an Adviser with a cabinet rank.
