T M Krishna is one of the most renowned musicians. He is a Carnatic vocalist, writer, activist, author and a commentator.

Mr T M Krishna is one of the most renowned musicians in India. He received his degree in Economics from Vivekananda College, University of Madras. He was one of the founding members of the Madras Music Academy.Uncommon in his rendition of music and original in his interpretation of it, Krishna is at once strong and subtle, manifestly traditional and stunningly innovative.
In 2016, Krishna received the prestigious ‘Ramon Magsaysay Award’ in recognition of ‘his forceful commitment as artist and advocate to art’s power to heal India’s deep social divisions’. In 2017 he received the ‘Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration’ for his services in promoting and preserving national integration in the country. He has also received the ‘Professor V Aravindakshan Memorial Award’ for connecting Carnatic music with the common man.
Krishna began his career at age 12 and has since performed widely at various venues across the world, including the National Centre for the Performing Arts (India), John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
Krishna speaks and writes about a wide range of issues, not just confined to the cultural sphere. As a public intellectual, Krishna speaks and writes about issues affecting the human condition and about matters of culture. His interests span the breadth of activism, environment, caste system, social reform, religious reform, combating communalism and innovation in classical music.
Some of his books are ‘Sebastian And Sons: A brief history of Mrdangam makers’ , Reshaping Art (2018), Katrinile Karainda Tuyar (2018) and A Southern Music: The Carnatic Story (2013).
