Former Hindustan Unilever chairman Ashok Ganguly invites readers to journey with him as he looks back fondly on his life. The story spans eighty years of his life, its edges tinged by the tumultuous events in India in the 20th century, and interspersed with fascinating people, from the mysterious Kishen Khanna, who accurately predicted events in Ganguly’s life, to encounters and friendships with well-known historical figures such as Mother Teresa and Rajiv Gandhi. Ashok Ganguly’s journey was interspersed with failures, but he doesn’t shy away from talking about these and the sacrifices that went on to define his life.
Ashok Ganguly
Much of Dr. Ganguly’s working life has been with Unilever PLC, where he spent over 35 years. He was the Chairman of Hindustan Lever Ltd from 1980 to 1990 and a member of the Unilever Board from 1990 to 1997. Dr. Ganguly has held board level positions with various other multinationals, including Hindustan Lever, ICI India, British Airways, Wipro, Tata AIG Life Insurance Co. He was a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha (2009-2015).
Richard B. Saldanha
Mr. Richard B, Saldanha served Hindustan Lever & Unilever for 30 years. He was Chairman and CEO of Unilever Peru and a Member of the Unilever Latin America Board. He returned to India as Managing Director of Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd. He is currently Chairman of Gokaldas Exports and also on the Board of Bennett Coleman and Co (Holding Co of Times of India Group). He is also Vice-Chairman of The Court of Governors of the Administrative Staff College of India.
